Full Mouth Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small artificial root typically made of titanium. Your dentist surgically places it in your jawbone to support a restoration such as an artificial crown, dental bridge, or denture. With this artificial root for support and stability, your restoration options increase dramatically. You can choose from individual implants replacing each tooth, an implant-supported bridge for some teeth, or implant-supported overdentures for an entire arch.

Traditional dentures can be uncomfortable, inconvenient, and unstable. Dental implants have become the new gold standard for a single tooth replacement, but if there are several teeth missing, they can be costly and more complicated. By creatively combining two technologies, it now provides an innovative and affordable solution for you that delivers terrific comfort, stability, and a longer life expectancy.

Your compassionate team at Georgetown Periodontics & Implant Dentistry is wholly committed to providing you, your family, and every patient with comprehensive periodontal care that improves your oral health and daily function. The Benefits of Full Mouth Dental Implants

A complete arch of single dental implants is expensive and time-consuming. Full mouth dental implants offer a wonderful compromise with many advantages.

  • Stability- Your dental implants will fuse and bond directly to your jawbone. As your jaw moves, so do your implants, creating stability. Conventional dentures use a dental adhesive that can easily become loose. Because your implants have securely grown to the jawbone, they are strong, secure, and stable. Your restoration attaches to these implants, providing stability, making it a terrific long-term restoration solution.
  • Comfort- Dental implants provide a naturally comfortable solution for missing teeth. They support a removable overdenture that precisely snaps onto several dental implants. This is convenient for cleaning or replacing, especially if an entire arch is missing teeth and you require a restorative replacement. This implant system fits great and feels more comfortable, thus improving your self-esteem for your natural smile. Traditional dentures will lose their desired fit and become uncomfortable. When this does happen, it causes ulcers or an overgrowth of gum tissue, resulting in difficulty speaking, eating, and enjoying favorite foods.
  • Convenience- A temporary replacement overdenture will be placed at the same appointment as the dental implants procedure.
  • Better Bones- Dental implants are in a distinctive class when it comes to both bone and dental health. According to research studies, traditional dentures will eventually result in jawbone atrophy, causing your facial structure to begin to collapse with a recessed jaw. The integration of the dental implants, functioning as artificial roots, into your jawbone preserves the integrity of your jawbone mass and density and the aesthetics of your face.
  • Easier Maintenance- Full mouth implants are durable, but not indestructible. Consistent maintenance and overall good oral hygiene are important. With daily brushing, flossing, and regular dental exams with Georgetown Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, your implants will last a lifetime.
  • Cost- This treatment only requires four implants per arch, so it is far more affordable than placing an entire arch row of dental implants.

The Full Mouth Dental Implant Process

The process begins with an evaluation by the team at Georgetown Periodontics & Implant Dentistry. We review your medical history and the condition of any remaining natural teeth, as well as the health of your gums. We will also capture X-rays of your jawbone, either upper or lower, to identify and determine the density and integrity of your jaw structure. Now we can pinpoint the precise, specific locations for each implant, or we may have to consider bone grafting before an implant placement, to ensure the necessary jawbone mass for successful support. When the ideal positions are identified for each implant, the procedure starts with the team at Georgetown Periodontics & Implant Dentistry administering a local anesthetic to numb the tissue around each implant location. When the tissue is numb, we make a small incision and surgically place each tiny titanium post into your jawbone. We close each site with sutures to finish.

It now takes a few months for the implants to bond, fuse, and integrate with the jawbone. During this healing period, we provide you with a temporary denture or dental bridge. When your healing is achieved, we again open the gum tissue to add an abutment or extension on the implant to reach the surface of the gumline. With a few weeks of healing, you are ready to receive your final permanent restoration. The attachment method might snap on each post, or a bar attachment connecting all implants; either way, we attach the final custom appliance created at a dental lab. The appliance securely snaps onto the posts or bar, and you have a stable and secure restoration as you leave Georgetown Periodontics & Implant Dentistry with a proud, healthy smile.
